The Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C I) at Penn State offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and many options for teacher certification.
There is a growing demand for graduates of teacher education programs. This department offers professional programs leading to certification in early childhood (PK-4), middle-level education (grades 4-8), and in a variety of discipline areas leading to certification at the secondary-school level. Admission to a specific teacher certification program occurs only after a student applies to a particular program during or at the conclusion of the freshman year. This department also provides a variety of clinical field experiences, including student teaching.
Zbiek to take reins of College's Department of Curriculum and Instruction— Rose Mary Zbiek has been named department head for Curriculum and Instruction within Penn State’s College of Education.Waterbury Chair awarded highest honor at NARST ceremony — Richard Duschl, Kenneth B. Waterbury Chaired Professor of Secondary Education, earned the Distinguished Contributions Award at the 2015 awards luncheon for NARST: A Worldwide Organization for Improving Science Teaching and Learning through Research. Distinguished professor receives Lifetime Achievement Award - M. Kathleen Heid, distinguished professor in the College of Education, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) for 2015.
