SkillPort 8.0
The University has updated the SkillPort training site to version 8.0. With this update the dependency on the Java web plugin has been removed which means that the training modules will run without the need for the plugin in any modern web browser.

Managed Software Center
The Carrara Education Technology Center is proud to announce the availability of Managed Software Center. Managed Software Center is the newly evolved version of Managed Software Update which brings many new and exciting features.
PSA on Silverlight in Google Chrome
It has been discovered in the past few weeks that the Microsoft Silverlight plugin will no longer function in Google Chrome. This is due to the fact that Google Chrome has recently gone to a 64-bit application and Google has stated that they are no longer supporting 32-bit plugins. Silverlight is a 32-bit plugin. You can however continue to use Silverlight websites in another browser such as Safari or Firefox. If you have any further questions or issues please contact the CETC Help Desk.
OS X "Shellshock" Update
Recently a security vulnerability was found in OS X named "Shellshock". This bug would allow malicious users to perform distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks and vulnerability scanning. Apple has released an update for this bug that will be rolling out to all OS X systems.
OS X Yosemite Update
Yesterday, Apple released the highly anticipated OS X Yosemite which brings an array of new features and a flatter UI to the OS. CETC has begun testing the OS to make sure that all University and College software functions properly with the new OS. Once testing has been completed users can THEN request upgrade to the new OS.
OS X Yosemite Availability
The Carrara Education Technology Center would like to announce availability of OS X Yosemite. To begin the process of installing OS X Yosemite please submit a ticket to the EDUC Help Desk. Once submitted, the download for OS X Yosemite will be available through Managed Software Center. CETC has vetted 10.10 for support with essential university and college services.
SPSS License Renewal
As many of you are aware, the SPSS license expired on December 1, 2014. We have just received the 2015 license and have tested the license which was successful. The license will begin rolling out to those licensed for SPSS automatically. If you do not have a 2015 license PLEASE purchase a 2015 license to continue using SPSS Statistics.
Adobe Creative Cloud 2014 Now Available
The Carrara Education Technology Center is pleased to announce the availablity of Adobe Creative Cloud 2014. After extensive testing the suite has been placed into production. Since Adobe products function independently the Creative Cloud 2013 suite will remain on user's systems. A user can request an update to 2014 and keep the 2013 suite or have it removed.
iPhoto is now Photos in OS X (10.10.3)
The Carrara Education Technology Center would like to let our users know that as of the newest OS X Update 10.10.3, iPhoto will no longer function as Apple has decided to switch to the new Photos application which his included with OS X. Users of previous versions of OS X will not receive this change. If you have any questions about this change please feel free to submit a ticket to the EDUC Help Desk.
MSC Haworth WPS
Haworth Wireless Projection Service in Managed Software Center
Haworth Wireless Projector in 273 Chambers
As many of you are aware a new projector was installed in 273 Chambers. There is software to accompany the projector which is available for both PC and Mac. If you are a Mac user the software is available in Managed Software Center under "Haworth Wireless Projection Service". If you are a PC user you can request the software via a support ticket with CETC.
PSU Wireless Update
Penn State has renewed the certificate used to authenticate for Penn State wireless as the old one expires this Saturday. In order to provide a smooth transition so service is not interrupted we are deploying a new wireless profile for all systems this weekend.
EDUROAM Wireless Profile
The eduroam wireless profile is currently being deployed to all managed OS X and iOS devices. This profile will allow users to connect to the eduroam wireless which is available all over the world at public institutions using their PSU credentials.
AIS Update
Recently Penn State sent out that effective July 1, they will implement a new security setting on the Mainframe to mitigate a security vulnerability. This change impacts IBIS, ISIS, TSO and ROSCOE. In the College of Education, all users will receive a small update that will resolve this issue. As long as the update is installed prior to July 1, there should be no interruption to any of these services. Adobe Creative Cloud Update
This morning we received a fix for the Adobe Creative Cloud licensing issue. All Windows and OS X managed computers will receive this update automatically. If there are any issues with your software after the update is applied please submit a ticket to help.educ.psu.edu
New Software in Managed Software Center
As of today some new software is now available to users in Managed Software Center. CETC has been hard at work testing an array of software to make sure that everything works properly. Check below for the list of new software:
OS X El Capitan Availability
The Carrara Education Technology Center would like to announce availability of OS X El Captian. To begin the process of installing OS X El Capitan please submit a ticket to the EDUC Help Desk. SPSS License Renewal Completed
I'm sure many of you have noticed that the SPSS license expires on December 1 of each year which prompts you that the license is no longer valid. SPSS will however continue to function for 30 days after this expiration. As of today, we have received the new SPSS license which will cover ALL College of Education machines so the license will automatically update.
FIT for Mac
As many of you know IBIS FIT has not been updated since OS X 10.7 which meant users could not use this tool on future version of OS X. As of today, all users can now install IBIS FIT through Managed Software Center on any OS X installation. If you require assistance please submit a ticket.
