Where: Nittany Lion Inn, State College
The Pennsylvania School Study Center and the Penn State College of Education will host the Arts in Education Lecture and Luncheon on July 10, 2014.
Keynote speaker Dr. Kimberlee Kiehl, executive director of the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center (SEEC) in Washington, DC, will lead a discussion about early childhood education.
Dr. Kiehl and the SEEC operate three school sites and, through the strengths of the Smithsonian Institute, provide innovative activities for children ages two months through kindergarten. Previously, Dr. Kiehl served as the Chief Strategy and Operations Office and Senior Vice President for the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus, Ohio. During here time at COSI, Kiehl was responsible for the physical and programmatic design of little kidspace®, a 12,000-square-foot "museum-within-a-museum" designed specifically for young children.
Dr. Keihl will address her passion for changing the way that people view early childhood education. This message can be even more valuable to educators because of Pennsylvania's renewed attentions for providing meaningful early childhood education as a foundation for academic success for all students.
Lunch at the Nittany Lion Inn will follow Dr. Kiehl's presentation.
Act 48 Professional Development credit will be available for educators. For information, please contact the PA School Study Council at firstname.lastname@example.org or 814-865-0321.
