Graduate Students Publish Eighth Volume of Higher Education in Review
by Hannah Chakan
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Graduate students in the Higher Education Program at Penn State recently published the eighth volume of Higher Education in Review (HER). This year, the journal was edited by Peter Moran.
“The most rewarding experience for me, as editor, was working with my colleagues to strengthen the educational aspects of the journal,” Moran said.
According to Moran, the articles in this volume were selected from the largest number of submissions that the journal has ever received. HER also achieved record levels of participation on its staff.
“We have expanded the number of positions on the journal so that more students in our program can experience academic publishing,” Moran said.
Moran also praised the work of his editorial board, which included Claire Gilbert, Ezekiel Kimball, David Knight, and Rodney Hughes. Kimball will serve as editor for volume nine during the 2011-12 academic year.
Moran said that Kimball has big plans to expand the journal’s online presence and explore more multimedia options for its online publication.
“HER is in great hands for the future,” Moran said.
The independent, peer-reviewed journal’s mission is to make a substantial contribution to higher education literature through publications that relate to the university, the four-year college, the community college, and other high institutions of learning.
Higher Education in Review is prided on providing graduate students with first-hand experiences involving the publishing process. Graduate students from a variety of fields and universities are encouraged to submit work year-round.
