Career and College Transitions Workshop

Career and College Ready is more than a slogan. Students who complete both a CTE curriculum and a College Prep curriculum while in high school are more likely to complete college successfully than students who complete only the College Prep curriculum. They also start adulthood with less debt.

This workshop will share information about how students can earn college credits and college admission while taking high school courses in CTE curriculum at a Pennsylvania high school or career and technology center today. It will focus on preparing students to be career and college ready, including Programs of Study and Statewide Articulation Agreements. Counselors at CTCs, comprehensive high schools, and sending schools are encouraged to attend. Counselors who attended this workshop in eastern and western PA rated it highly.

Objective:

After participating in the workshop attendees will be able to:

  •  Provide information to students on the SOAR program and how it helps them to earn credits at a career and technology center or a high school that can also be used for college credit
  • Demonstrate to parents and students how to access the PDE website to determine which of the credits their program provides will transfer from their career and technology center to participating colleges
  • Assist students, parents, and guidance counselors on selecting the colleges that will give them the most credits toward their college degree

Intended Audience:

High school counselors, Middle school counselors, CTE counselors, cooperative education coordinators, curriculum coordinators, transition coordinators, and CTE recruiters.
