Children's Book Drive

Information about the Children's Book Drive, a project of the Penn State College of Education Alumni Society.

The College of Education Alumni Society conducted a Children's Book Drive from 1997 through 2008. More than 100,000 books had been collected and distributed. Books for pre-kindergarten through 8th grade were collected from school libraries that are purging their collections, from school children who are interested in donating books they no longer read, and from other available sources.

Once the books were collected, they were reviewed carefully so damaged and inappropriate books were eliminated from the collection.

Books were sorted into the following categories for distribution:

Preschool and Kindergarten
Elementary: Primary (1st to 3rd)
Elementary: Intermediate (4th and 5th)
Middle School (6th to 8th)

The Children's Book Drive was conducted entirely by alumni on a volunteer basis and was sponsored in cooperation with Penn State's College of Education.
