Distinguished Alumni

The Distinguished Alumni Award of The Pennsylvania State University was proposed by President Milton S. Eisenhower and adopted by the Board of Trustees on January 19, 1951. The principal purpose of the award is to recognize and salute the achievements of outstanding alumni whose "personal lives, professional achievements and community service exemplify the objective of the Alma mater."

All persons who have been regular full-time students at Penn State, whether or not they have graduated, are eligible for the award Students in correspondence courses, noncredit courses or informal extension instruction courses are not eligible, nor are current members of the Board of Trustees, current members of the University staff and current officers and members of the executive board of the Alumni Association.

Alumni are select annually for this honor by the Board of Trustees from a group of candidates nominated by the trustees, faculty, staff and alumni. Presentation of the awards is made at the time of the alumni reunions in June.

The award consists of a bronze medallion and certificate. A commemorative booklet, containing pictures of the recipients, biographical sketches and the formal citations, is printed as a souvenir of the occasion.

Alumni, faculty, staff, students, or friends of Penn State may submit nominations. To nominate, please go to: http://www.alumni.psu.edu/awards/individual/distinguished.htm
