Warmest congratulations on the occasion of your 25th anniversary of service to Penn State and the enhancement of higher education nationwide. All of us who have had the pleasure and privilege of working with you over the years have experienced the same thing: a man clearly focused on student development, a wonderful teacher and mentor, and a great friend who is always warm, caring, and approachable. You exemplify the very best of Penn State's Higher Education Program, and it is stronger as a result of your years of service.
Warmest best wishes and good luck in all your future endeavors.
Richard H. Dorman, E.Ed.
It is hard to believe that you are celebrating your silver anniversary at Penn State. It seems like only yesterday that I knocked on your door and asked if you would be my advisor. Over the years you have been a wonderful advisor, mentor, colleague and friend. But none of those words describe how Mary and I feel about you and Linda today. The only word that comes to mind is family.
You are a gifted teacher and researcher and your counsel and advice during my graduate studies has been a model for how I advise students to this day. Be kind, sensitive and caring but always make sure students are rigorous in their academic work and expect excellence from everyone.
You have also been a great role model for keeping balance in one’s life. It always amazed me how you could have dozens of graduate students completing dissertations, run a department, be on the school board, be active in your parish, coach soccer for your kids and still find time for exercise and enjoying life outside of work. To maintain such a balance is remarkable but to keep your wonderful sense of humor throughout it all – is inspiring.
Thank you for what you have done over the years for Penn State, for the community and for all those students who have been fortunate to work with you.
May God continue to bless you as you have blessed all of us.
