Appointment Conditions

Applicants should have a promising (assistant level) or established (associate level) record of teaching and research along with a strong commitment to serving persons with disabilities. The College has identified several priority areas for this search including: (a) improving post-secondary outcomes for students with disabilities, (b) corrections rehabilitation, (c) proprietary rehabilitation and/or (d) use of rehabilitation technology for persons with severe disabilities. The position is a tenure track, 36-week appointment with the possibility of supplementary summer appointments in teaching. Full University benefits apply.   • —Conduct a systematic program of research and seek and secure external support (where appropriate) for this research.
  • Teach undergraduate students within the residential and on-line instruction programs in Rehabilitation and Human Services (RHS) and residential instruction of graduate students within the Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling (CRMH) and related programs.
  • —Advise RHS undergraduates, CRMH master’s and, as appropriate, doctoral students in Counselor Education and Supervision and related programs.
  • Provide appropriate service within as well as outside Penn State University.


Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Counselor Education, Clinical, Counseling, Educational or Rehabilitation Psychology, Disability Studies, Higher Education, Rehabilitation Counselor Education or Special Education or a closely related field.
  • Evidence of a commitment to developing a significant program of research, commensurate with experience; persons considered for associate level must have a record of external funding.
  • Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising and interest in using applicable technology to assist student learning, commensurate with experience.
  • Evidence of a commitment to working collegially and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.


Desirable Qualifications

  •  Expertise in one or more of the following areas: promoting post-secondary transition of college students with disabilities, strategies to improve vocational rehabilitation outcomes of ex-offenders with disabilities, expertise in proprietary rehabilitation and/or the use of rehabilitation technology to support independent living of persons with severe disabilities.
  •  Experience teaching and advising in higher education and work experience in a college or university disability services office.
  • —Earned certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor or demonstrated eligibility for this certification.
