Counseling Services

The Counselor Education program at the Dr. Edwin L. Herr Clinic aims to provide strengths-based counseling services to promote mental health and wellness for the Penn State Community. The Herr Clinic delivers such services by both doctoral and master’s level students in the Counselor Education program. We maintain two primary goals of the Counselor Education program: 1) to provide individual/group counseling to Penn State students enrolled at University Park and non-students, and 2) to provide supervised clinical training to both counselor education master's and doctoral students. We provide unlimited counseling sessions for clients and charge no fee for services for Penn State students. Additionally, we utilize advanced assessment, recording and documentation technologies.

Referrals

Typically Penn State students are referred from the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). If you are a Penn State student and have not received counseling services at the Herr Clinic previously, you must first go to CAPS for an initial interview (more information about CAPS can be found at Student Affairs Counseling and Psychology Services.

If you have received counseling services at the Herr Clinic in the past, please contact the Herr Clinic supervisors by calling (814) 863-2418 or emailing herrclinic@psu.edu. If you need to cancel or reschedule an existing appointment, please contact your counselor via email or contact the Herr Clinic supervisors. For members of the community seeking services, please contact the Herr Clinic supervisors by phone or email.

Hours of Operation

The Herr Clinic counseling services have been offered during the Fall and Spring semesters Monday through Thursday 9 am - 8 pm. Counseling services are not available during the summer and any official university closings, including Fall and Spring breaks, holidays, and inclement weather.

In Fall, 2020, however, the Herr Clinic will be providing Telemental Health services only, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You and your counselor will select an appointment time that works for both of you, and you will be provided with a secure Zoom link for each appointment.
