A message from the Department Head:

I am excited to be a part of the Department of Education Policy Studies at Penn State – without question, this is one of the top departments of its kind in the United States. Our 30 full-time faculty lead programs in Educational Theory and Policy, Educational Leadership, and Higher Education that are each ranked in the top ten in their fields by US News and World Report. Cutting edge research is conducted in faculty-led Centers for the Study of Higher Education, Education and Civil Rights, Education Disparities Research, Rural Education and Communities, and Evaluation and Education Policy Analysis. Our Comparative and International Education Dual Degree offers students a unique view into global education policy and practice. The Education and Public Policy program gives undergraduates a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in education today.  A robust community of students have access to online programs wherever they happen to reside, guided by the same faculty and the same curriculum as in-person students find at University Park. We have a strong and supportive department culture that includes nearly 400 students, including full- and part-time bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and K-12 administrative certification students. A third of our doctoral students are fully-funded with tuition and stipends to work with faculty on various projects.

Whether you want to be a school principal, an education policy analyst, a university administrator, or a scholar of international education systems, we have the faculty expertise and connections to the field to serve you.

As Department Head, I want to invite you to explore our programs and get to know our faculty. Get a sense of what we have to offer. I’m sure you’ll agree that my enthusiasm is more than justified. This is a great place to be!
