Ph.D. Dissertation Adviser & Committee
After attaining candidacy, students shall secure a dissertation chair to supervise his/her progress toward the completion and acceptance of the dissertation. The chair is a faculty member from the EDLDR program. It is advisable that this person’s research interests match those of the candidate’s intended dissertation research. The dissertation chair need not be the student’s academic adviser.
The student and chair select a dissertation committee. The dissertation committee consists of four or more graduate faculty, at least two of whom are faculty members in the major field (EDLDR), and one member from outside the major field. The outside member must be in a department different from that of the dissertation chair (i.e., outside the Department of Education Policy Studies).
Students must complete the Committee Appointment/Signature Form and submit the form to the EDLDR staff assistant prior to scheduling a proposal hearing. The form can be obtained from the EDLDR staff assistant.
