#6 Gender Equity Center Graduate Assistant

The Gender Equity Center is seeking applications for a graduate assistant position focused on gender-based violence prevention programming.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Coordinate the Gender Equity Center’s two peer education groups: Men Against Violence (MAV) and Peers Helping Reaffirm, Educate & Empower (PHREE)
  • Assist with the planning and facilitation of Greeks CARE, a six week sexual assault prevention program for members of fraternities and sororities.
  • Assist with the presentation of educational programming on a wide range of issues including sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, gender stereotypes, and body image to student groups.
  • Assist students with information/research requests.
  • Assist in day-to-day office operations.
  • Represent the Center at meetings and other University events, as requested.
  • Assist with special projects and arrangements for special programming events, as needed.

Qualifications

Candidate must be a graduate student in good standing, either at master’s or doctoral level. Must be committed to gender equity and show demonstrated interest in engaging college students in gender-based violence prevention. Preference will be given to candidates who have taken women’s or gender studies courses and introductory human development/social and behavioral sciences classes, who have experience with programming on gender-based violence, have experience engaging college students in leadership and mentoring, and/or have completed advocate training offered by community sexual assault/relationship violence service provider. Strong interpersonal, problem solving, and oral and written communication skills. Ability to work as a team member in a confidential setting, while at the same time being able to function independently.

Terms of Appointment

20 hours a week for both fall and spring semesters, will involve some evening/weekend hours.
