    DCEC Offers Small Grants for Diversity Initiatives

    Any faculty, staff, or student of the College may request funding for a proposed event or program that supports diversity and community enhancement.

     

    David Baker Heads Project to Study Link Between Formal Schooling and Everyday Health Risk

    The two-year grant, funded by the National Science Foundation, runs from Oct. 1, 2008 to Sept. 30, 2010.

     

    Penn State Wins $800,000 Grant to Support Concurrent Master’s Degree and Certification in Special Education

    Student applications are now being accepted for summer 2009.

     

    Career and Technical Educators Workshop Offered to Students

    The Workforce Education and Development program hosted members of the National Technical Honors Society on November 18, for an informational workshop on becoming a career and technical educator.

     

    Alumnus to Receive New Teacher Award

    Matthew Herdman '06 has been selected to receive the Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics 2008 New Teacher Award.

     

    Engaging Middle School Mathematics Students in Problem-Based Learning: Placement of Cell Phone Towers

    Rose Mary Zbiek, Shari Ann Reed, and Tracy Boone developed a geometry lesson that incorporated problem-based learning stations.

     

    Black Latinos with Disabilities: Limited Access to Vocational Rehabilitation Reflects African American Societal Challenges

    Keith Wilson, professor of rehabilitation services, says Black Latinos are less likely to receive rehabilitation services than White Latinos.

     

    Shaping the Equitable Distribution of State Education Funding to the Schools

    Preston Green has done extensive work in the area of law and education. His influence helped the Kansas Supreme Court in its decision to change the state legislature's practice of distributing funding.

     

    Senator James Rhoades Remembered for his Commitment to Improve Education

    Rhoades was a true colleague and ally with a strong interest to improve the state of education.

    Faculty Staff Retirements

    Long time staff assistants, Suzy Lutz and Jo-Ann Dreibelbis, retired on September 30, 2008, after 35 years of service to Penn State.

     

    Stephanie Serriere Uses Course-Development Grant to Hold Student Democratic Forum

    Serriere's students participated in a Constitution Day forum, held September 17.

    Howe, a returning adult student, worked full-time while taking classes to complete his bachelor of science degree in order to pursue a teaching career.

    Subosits helped evaluate education programs at elementary schools at Native American reservations in Montana.
