UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State College of Education has named Rose Snyder as the Student Marshal for fall 2012. She will be recognized during the Penn State Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at the Bryce Jordan Center. Snyder has chosen Dr. Maryann Kinsey to escort her as the College's Faculty Marshal.

Majoring in Elementary & Kindergarten Education with a minor in Special Education, Snyder is currently completing her teaching practicum in a fourth-grade classroom at Shaler Area Elementary School in Glenshaw, Pa.

"Being the student marshal for the College of Education has given me a sense of pride and achievement for the effort and dedication that I have put forth in my studies while here at Penn State," said Snyder. ""It is also an honor to represent the Education department of an accredited university such as Penn State."

Regarding her selection of Dr. Kinsey as the Faculty Marshal, Snyder said, "Dr. Kinsey has a visible passion for working along side prospective educators that is contagious. Her noticeable enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring students has given me an exemplary model of how I would like to interact with my future students. The continuous amount of guidance that she has given me this semester has prepared me and given me the confidence to enter the classroom as a full-time educator."

Snyder's parents, Steven and Ellyn, and her brother Drew, plan to attend the commencement ceremony.

After graduation, Snyder plans to seek a full-time teaching position as an elementary or middle school mathematics teacher. She also plans to continue coaching the Peters Township High School Swim Team and the Peters Township Swim Club.
