Brian Smith Named Faculty Advisor in Information Sciences and Technology Institute

The Solutions Institute provides assistance in issues related to technology-assisted education and training.

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Brian K. Smith, associate professor of instructional systems and education, has been named the faculty advisor to the Solutions Institute in Penn State’s College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST). Smith holds a joint appointment between IST and the College of Education.

Founded in 1999, the Solutions Institute has become a leading applied research and development organization focusing on solutions for technology-assisted education and training challenges. It develops media within the IST College to be used at the College’s locations across the state.

“Dr. Smith is particularly well suited to take on this challenge,” said Hank Foley, dean of the College of Information Sciences and Technology. “He has extensive experience at the MIT Media Lab, and has a strong commitment through his research, scholarship, and teaching to design and test new strategies and approaches that augment human performance and learning.”
