What is Professional Development School?

Student teacher working with a student on a computerThe Pennsylvania State University - State College Area School District K-4 Professional Development Schools (PDS) is a collaborative program involving pre-service teachers, veteran teachers, administrators, and university faculty working together for a common mission.

The mission of the Pennsylvania State University - State College Area School District K-4 Professional Development School is to create and maintain a community of pre-service teachers, inservice teachers, and teacher educators who strive to engage all partners, including K-4 students, in continuous learning, reflection, and innovation through respectful, collaborative inquiry.

Who Should Apply?

Juniors majoring in elementary education who seek an opportunity to pursue a yearlong field-based alternative for completion of their teacher preparation program during their senior year should apply to the award-winning Professional Development School partnership between Penn State University and State College Area School District.
