Peer Coaching
What is peer coaching:
Peer coaching is a supportive process where students meet with trained success coaches to discuss their academic, professional, and social lives. Coaches help students explore strategies for academic success, get involved on campus, and connect with helpful resources. Instead of giving direct advice, peer coaches ask thoughtful questions and share new perspectives, empowering students to navigate challenges in their own way.
Peer coaches are available at the Journey Success Center in 209a Rackley for 30-minute one-on-one sessions, Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 1:30pm.

Why Meet with a Peer Coach?
Meeting with a peer coach can help you navigate your college journey by discussing topics such as:
- Time Management & Productivity: Creating schedules, setting priorities, and avoiding procrastination.
- Study Strategies: Improving focus, preparing for exams, and organizing coursework.
- Campus Involvement: Exploring clubs, organizations, and leadership opportunities.
- Goal Setting: Developing academic, personal, and career goals and tracking progress.
- Stress Management: Learning techniques to handle pressure and maintain balance.
- Career Preparation: Building resumes, practicing for interviews, and finding internships.
- Resource Connection: Identifying and accessing on-campus services and support
Profile
Garrett Miller
Peer Coach
Hi, my name is Garrett Miller. I am a senior here at Penn State University Park and I am currently finishing up my last semester majoring in Rehabilitation and Human Services. I plan to use this major in the future as a clinical mental health counselor. As part of my coursework, I am interning with the Journey Success Center in the College of Education as a peer coach.
I chose to work with Journey because I enjoy working one-on-one with others. I believe I work best in close collaboration and as a peer coach, I am able to do just that. Additionally, I prefer to make a positive impact in the work that I do. Being a peer coach allows me to do work I feel is important on both an individual level and a community level.

Lauren Johnston
Peer Coach
Hi! My name is Lauren Johnston. I am currently a fourth-year majoring in Rehabilitation and Human Services with minors in Psychology and Addictions and Recovery. Following college, my plan is to get my Masters in Social Work, and go on to work in a Children's Hospital as a Social Worker, or a Child Life Specialist. I am currently an intern at the Journey Success Center as a peer coach.
Coaching interests me because I want to help students find resources that they didn’t know they had. I want to be a resource and support system for any students who need it, and help them have the best college experience possible.
