3:00 PM: Social Disciplining and the Disorientations of Reentry

Successful reentry requires that those being released from incarceration have social worlds that are capable of welcoming them home. In this talk, CSU Bakersfield professor and former RJI volunteer Tiffany Tsantsoulas discusses the disorientations of reentry for all parties involved. While much attention has been given to the destabilizing effects of reentry, Dr. Tsantsoulas will expand on the potentially positive, because transformational disorientations experienced by those who already inhabit the social worlds that are attempting to incorporate those being released. Dr.Tsantsoulas argues that the tensions of reentry make evident the fundamental changes needed in our social understandings of “home” and “belonging”.
