Program Overview

The Teacher-in-Residence (TRP) at Penn State offers an endorsement in mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics.

The Teacher-in-Residence Program is a 12-month program and upon successful completion, candidates will receive certification in one of the STEM secondary education content areas.

Candidates are also eligible to receive a middle-grades endorsement if they have sufficient undergraduate coursework in their chosen content area. Candidates may also choose to take courses beyond the program requirements in order to become eligible for subject-specific middle grades endorsements.

This program is organized around research-based frameworks that address issues of equity, anti-racism, and social justice and extensively prepares candidates to work in and with schools in high-need areas.

Our innovative hybrid model centers the host schools’ community strengths and cultural wealth, emphasizing the importance of diversity and representation in the teaching profession.
