Ravinder has been a member of the Penn State University faculty since 1998. From 1998-2014, he was located at Penn State Great Valley School of Graduate Professional Studies and was the Curriculum and Instruction program coordinator at that campus. He relocated to University Park in the fall of 2014. He is a former physics teacher who holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Penn State. His research has been published in educational journals such as British Journal of Educational Psychology, Learning and Individual Differences, Studies in Science Education, International Journal of Educational Research, and Physics Education Research. His research has focused on investigations that apply historical, religious, socio-cultural, achievement-related, and gender-related motivational perspectives on a variety of learning outcomes. His current work on gender identity and self-concept contributes to the theoretical and empirical work on the motivational antecedents for the math and science identity deemed critical for achieving gender equity in STEM fields. He has received Fulbright senior specialist awards for Thailand during 2006 and 2010. He teaches courses in science education, educational research and curriculum development.
