Biography

 

Andrea McCloskey is an Associate Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction for the College of Education at Penn State. Her research focuses on teacher preparation and development, cultural influences on teaching practices in elementary school mathematics, and ways that improvisational theater can critique current practices and point to new ways of understanding mathematical activity in classroom settings.

 

Dr. McCloskey is an active member, reviewer, and committee member in professional and scholarly organizations such as the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Research in Mathematics Education SIG of the American Education Research Association, and the Association for Mathematics Teacher Educators.

 

Dr. McCloskey has published in journals such as the Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education, Educational Studies in Mathematics, The Review of Educational Research, and Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School.

 

She also co-founded and owns Happy Valley Improv, a long-form improvisational theater company.
