Nominations for the 2023-24 College of Education Faculty, Staff, and Student Awards Program are being accepted starting Monday, November 27, 2023. The College recognizes those who have made significant contributions to their respective fields, the College of Education, and the larger University community.

The deadline for submission is Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Submit Nomination: Please send your nomination statement to Karen Brewster ([email protected]). The nomination statement should not exceed 1,000 words.

Awards

Recognizes exemplary performance in the conduct of research by a junior and senior College of Education faculty member.

 

Outstanding Junior Researcher Award

Recognizes exemplary performance in the conduct of research by a College of Education faculty member. This award typically recognizes the significance of a particular contribution to research literature.

 

Required Materials

  • Nomination Statement: Should highlight the following: 1) Significance - should situate one's work with the nominee's field of study; 2) Productivity - refers to the volume of production and the frequency of citations; 3) Impact - refers to the degree to which the nominee's research impacts policy and practice.

 

Outstanding Senior Researcher Award

Recognizes exemplary performance in the conduct of research by a College of Education faculty member. This award recognizes the overall impact of one's research. It is typically given to a faculty member who has achieved national and international recognition due to his or her legacy.

 

Required Materials

  • Nomination Statement: Should highlight the following: 1) Significance - should situate one's work with the nominee's field of study; 2) Productivity - refers to the volume of production and the frequency of citations; 3) Impact - refers to the degree to which the nominee's research impacts policy and practice.

Recognizes exemplary performance in the conduct of research by a College of Education junior and senior faculty member.

 

Outstanding Junior Teaching Award

Outstanding teaching implies the use of new instructional content and instructional approaches as well as the use of emerging state-of-the-art technology. Undergraduate and graduate instruction may be recognized. Award nominees may include tenured, tenure-track, visiting, instructors, fixed-term I, and multi-year faculty members. The Junior Outstanding Teaching Award is for those instructors who are newer in their career, including pre-tenure, first 5-7 years of service, or otherwise newer to their teaching career. 

 

Required Materials

  • Nomination Statement: Should highlight the following: 1) A unique use of pedagogy; 2) Innovative use of classroom technology; 3) Impact on students.

 

Outstanding Senior Teaching Award

Outstanding teaching implies the use of new instructional content and instructional approaches as well as the use of emerging state-of-the-art technology. Undergraduate and graduate instruction may be recognized. Award nominees may include tenured, tenure-track, visiting, instructors, fixed-term I, and multi-year faculty members. The Senior Outstanding Teaching Award is for those instructors who are more advanced in their careers including post-tenture, further than 5-7 years of service, or otherwise have demonstrated a longer history of teaching. 

 

Required Materials

  • Nomination Statement: Should highlight the following: 1) A unique use of pedagogy; 2) Innovative use of classroom technology; 3) Impact on students. 

 

Recognizes faculty who are approaching the end of their careers. Over time, teaching, research, and service excellence provide the basis for being recognized with the Career Achievement Award. Typically, the nominee must have spent at least five years in residence at Penn State.

Required Materials

  • Nomination Statement: Should highlight the following: 1) Nominee's contributions to the Department, College, University, and Discipline; 2) Nominee's teaching, research, and service, achievements.

Honors exempt and non-exempt staff members who contribute significantly to the quality of life within the College. Outstanding staff enables administrators, faculty, and students’ success by creating and fostering positive social environments, facilitating communication, and promoting improved productivity methods. This award can be given to one (1) exempt and one (1) non-exempt staff member each year.

Required Materials

  • Nomination Statement: Should highlight the nominee's contributions to their program, department, and/or the college as a whole. 

 

Recognizes an advanced graduate student’s contribution to research and/or teaching. Publications, conference presentations, external recognition from one’s professional association, and exemplary teaching are examples of outstanding performance that may be recognized. The nominee must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student in the College of Education.

Required Materials

  • Nomination Statement: Nominee's outstanding activities.

Recognizes undergraduate student leaders. Candidates must be enrolled as full-time baccalaureate student in the College of Education who is at least a junior and has maintained a 3.0 grade point average.

Required Materials

  • Nomination Statement: 1) Nominee’s promotion of leadership and service to individuals, the University, and civic life; 2) Nominee’s fostering of personal and professional development of peers through example.

Recognizes contributions by any faculty, staff, or student to pursuing the College's diversity agenda.

Required Materials

  • Nomination Statement: 1) Nominee’s contributions to the pursuit of the College’s diversity agenda.
