Biography

Dr. Xiangquan (James) Yao is an associate professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Pennsylvania State University. He completed his Ph.D. work in mathematics education at Ohio State University. His research focuses on mathematical thinking and processes in dynamic and interactive mathematics learning environments (e.g., The Geometer’s Sketchpad, GeoGebra, and Desmos), the development of technological, mathematical, and pedagogical understanding for teaching mathematics with technology that supports learners’ engagement in essential mathematical processes, and the teaching and learning of mathematical modeling. His recent research work focuses on the examination of dynamic and interactive resources for mathematics teaching and learning, technology integration practices in mathematics classrooms, and mathematics teaching and learning with Generative AI.

He is currently a co-editor of Contemporary Issues in Technology and Mathematics Teacher Education (CITE-Math).
