Biography

Dr. Gwendolyn M. Lloyd is Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the College of Education at Penn State, where she holds the Henry J. Hermanowicz Professorship in Education and is Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction. Prior to her role as Associate Dean, Gwen served as Director of Graduate Studies in Curriculum & Instruction and Director of the Elementary and Early Childhood Education teacher preparation program. She received Penn State’s Undergraduate Program Leadership Award and the College of Education’s Cotterill Leadership Award for her program leadership efforts. Her research in mathematics education, teacher education and professional development, and curricular and instructional change has been published in refereed journal articles, chapters, and books and supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, including an Early Career grant. Gwen has served as Co-Editor for the Journal of Teacher Education, Associate Editor for the Review of Educational Research and the Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education, and Chair of the Editorial Panel of the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education. She recently edited a volume of the International Handbook of Mathematics Teacher Education (2nd ed.). Gwen received an A.B. with honors in mathematics at Bryn Mawr College, an M.A. in mathematics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Ph.D. in Educational Studies (mathematics education) at the University of Michigan. Before joining the faculty at Penn State, she was a professor in the Department of Mathematics at Virginia Tech, where she was recognized with an Alumni Award for Teaching Excellence.
